This looks like it could be a Top Gear challenge, or at least a Top Gear USA challenge.

Nope - the Porsche is the outlier.

Replace the 911 with a base 944 and maybe. Or, for more drivetrain variety, a 325ix.

The closest they would ever have been to equal would be when the NB was nearing the end of its run but the NB could still have been purchased new. Even then, it still wouldn’t be too close.

I dunno, my first thought was “hell no” but on second thought, air-cooled 911s weren’t always ridiculously expensive. A plain-jane 911SC could be had for less than $20K in the early 2000s. So, maybe? .

I don’t think the stars aligned close enough for 3 to come close price wise. The market has always slotted Porsche in high price brackets

There was a time when late 911s *pre 964-gen* were getting inexpensive. Like you could pick one up for ~10-12k if you got one of the less-desirable ones from the late 70s/early 80s. That was around 1995-98. If in 1995 you could pick up a 79 911 and a super-clean 88 or so supercharged MR2 for about 10k, then an NA Miata could have been right around there.
So yes, for the NA. Not NB, but late in the NA run you could.
